The FaultModeDefinition template describes how to represent a possible fault. Indicates
in what ways a specific ItemDefinition may brake or malfunction, e.g. too low battery
voltage. A fault mode is always related to a component. Note that a fault mode may
be rectified by given task methods.
The following SysML Part, Reference, and Value properties are defined for this template:
References:
causesUsageRestriction [0..*] (Template: SwedishDefence:
UsageRestrictionDefinition)
Relationship to a usage restriction definition for a type of product that is a recommended
usage restriction for any individual of that type where this fault mode has occurred.
faultOnItem [1] (Template: SwedishDefence:
ItemDefinition)
The ItemDefinition corresponding to an individual part that will be faulty because
of the FaultMode.
concernedLocation [0..*] (Template: SwedishDefence:
PhysicalElement)
Relationship to the physical location of the fault (through the faulty physical structure
element), should the fault mode occur.
rectifyingTask [1..*] (Template: SwedishDefence:
TaskMethod)
Relationship to a TaskMethod that should be used to rectify the fault.
operatingMode [0..*] (Template: SwedishDefence:
OperatingMode)
The operating mode(s) for which the fault mode definition (and associated mean time
between failure) has been defined.

faultModeDefinitionDescription [1] (Template: OASIS:
Descriptor)
Description of fault mode.
The reference data used in Template: OASIS:
Descriptor is restricted as follows:
RDL constraint 1:faultModeDescription constraint
The reference data for:
OASIS:Descriptor.classifiedAs -> ExternalOwlClass.class
is restricted to the following class or a subclass:
faultModeDefinitionId [1] (Template: OASIS:
Identification)
Identifies a specific fault mode.
The reference data used in Template: OASIS:
Identification is restricted as follows:
RDL constraint 1:faultModeId constraint
The reference data for:
OASIS:Identification.role -> ExternalOwlClass.class
is restricted to the following class or a subclass:
consequenceDescription [0..1] (Template: OASIS:

Description of the consequences, should the fault mode occur.
The reference data used in Template: OASIS:
Descriptor is restricted as follows:
RDL constraint 1:consequenceDescription constraint
The reference data for:
OASIS:Descriptor.classifiedAs -> ExternalOwlClass.class
is restricted to the following class or a subclass:
faultCauseDescription [1] (Template: OASIS:
Descriptor)
A description of the cause of the fault mode. Should only be used if the cause itself
is not defined as a fault mode.
The reference data used in Template: OASIS:
Descriptor is restricted as follows:
RDL constraint 1:faultCauseDescription constraint
The reference data for:
OASIS:Descriptor.classifiedAs -> ExternalOwlClass.class
is restricted to the following class or a subclass:
faultDetectionMethod [0..1] (ValueType:
ExternalOwlClass)
Classification of a fault mode definition by the detection method.
The reference data used is restricted to the following set:
meanTimeBetweenFailure [0..1] (Template: SwedishDefence:
PropertyValue)
Mean Time Between Failure is used for simulation and planning. It indicates how often
the fault may occur in the concerned location (MTBF).
The reference data used in Template: SwedishDefence:
PropertyValue is restricted as follows:
RDL constraint 1:meanTimeBetweenFailureText constraint
The reference data for:
OASIS:PropertyValueText.property -> ExternalOwlObject.individual
is restricted to the following individual:
RDL constraint 2:meanTimeBetweenFailureNumerical constraint
The reference data for:
OASIS:PropertyValueNumeric.property -> ExternalOwlObject.individual
is restricted to the following individual:
safetyHazardSeverityLevel [0..1] (ValueType:
ExternalOwlClass)
Qualitative measure of the worst credible mishappening resulting from personnel error;
environmental
conditions; design inadequacies; procedural deficiencies; or system, subsystem or
component failure or malfunction.
The reference data used is restricted to the following set:
